Boundary County Library accepts donations of materials that are in good, sellable condition.  This includes books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, software, and magazines. Historical materials and writings of local authors and/or subject matter will be welcomed.

We cannot accept law books, abridged books, damaged or deteriorating books, or sets of encyclopedias that are not in excellent condition. BCL reserves the right to evaluate and dispose of any item in accordance with the criteria applied to purchased materials. Gifts that do not agree with the library’s objectives and policies will be refused. No conditions on the part of the giver may be imposed relating to any material after its acceptance.

Memorial gifts may be made to the library for the purchase of materials and other items. The general nature of the book, or its subject area, will be based upon the interests of the deceased or the wishes of the donor, and the needs of the library. Should the donor indicate no preference for a specific use of the gift, the donation shall be used for whatever materials, equipment, or programs are deemed to be of greatest need for the library.

Memorial donations may be made under the stipulations provided for all gifts. A special book plate will be placed in all memorial books added to the library collection unless the donor requests otherwise.

Where can I donate materials?

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, at this time we are unable to accept large donations of materials at the front desk. Please contact the Director prior to  donating materials.

What happens to donated materials?

BCL reviews donated materials and adds suitable materials to the collection. The remaining books and materials are sold in our on-going book sale or during one of our special book sale events (calendar).  Unsold books may be donated, released or used in our outreach programs as storage space is limited.
